Dear Heptabase User,
Starting from last week, we have been posting a copy of each newsletter on our public wiki. If you missed the email or want to check out our updates at any time, you know where to find us!
Some users have told us that they felt last week's content was a bit too long, so this week we have made the updates a little shorter (really). We hope you will still enjoy them!
Use case - Use Heptabase to plan your dream adventures
In early September, one of our Discord community members, 小腸 (f800913), shared her creative use of Heptabase. She introduced her "Dream Whiteboard," which featured a world map in the center, with colored cards representing different continents and their associated events. You can explore this unique use case in more detail through the following link.
Whiteboard: Image Elements
Since the launch of Heptabase, many users have asked us: Can images be directly placed on the whiteboard?
Now it is possible.
Starting from version v1.11.0, you can directly drag and drop images into Heptabase’s whiteboards. You can also drag multiple images at once. These image elements can be resized, previewed, and connected with other objects on the whiteboard.
We believe that Image Elements will make Heptabase more intuitive for many users to use. You no longer need to consider whether to use text or cards to store images. We want you to be able to do things the way you want.
In the near future, we will also support dragging videos and audios to the whiteboards and give you the option of turning them into cards that can be linked and tagged.
Mobile App: New Home
The day after last week's newsletter was sent out, we launched version 1.4 of our mobile app, bringing you a brand new design for the Mobile Home.
From now on, when you open the mobile app, you will enter this interface. There are four buttons on the screen: Card Library, Whiteboard, Tag, and Highlight, which correspond to the four main features of the desktop version.
At the second half of the screen, there is also a “Recent” list where you can see the cards you have recently accessed on your mobile device.
Since the release of the full-featured mobile app at the end of August, we have been continuously improving its experience, and we will be adding more functionality to the mobile app in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!
Better Export for tags, properties, and mindmaps
Since the launch of Heptabase, our team has consistently emphasized the significance of the export feature. We understand the frustration of having accumulated content lock-in within a specific system.
As Heptabase continues to evolve, we have shipped many features such as tags, properties, and mindmaps. We want to ensure that all this information is exportable in a proprietary format that users can easily take with them wherever they go. Therefore, in the recent updates, when exporting cards with tags and properties, you will find YAML-formatted metadata above the card. Mindmaps will also be exported as markdown.
If you have any suggestions to improve Heptabase's export feature, please let us know. We will continuously improve our export capability over time.
Tip: Open the Command Palette to Navigate to everywhere
In Heptabase, there is a relatively unnoticed but very useful shortcut: Command Palette. You can trigger it by pressing Cmd + K (MacOS) or Ctrl + K (Windows).
This shortcut will bring up a small window where you can directly click on several main features, such as Journal and Tag. However, an even easier way is to simply enter a few letters to search for the desired destination.
For example, after opening the command palette, press J, and then press Enter. This will take you directly to the Journal.
We understand that some users prefer keyboard operations, so we will also try to improve this aspect of the experience. If you haven't tried the Command Palette yet, feel free to give it a try!

Josh Ginter from The Sweet Setup has just published an article titled A First Look at Heptabase, a PKM App for Research and Learning. It provides a brief introduction to Heptabase and shares Josh's experience using it. We are amazed that Josh chose Heptabase to study the 3,438-page Canadian Income Tax Act.
We believe it's a wise choice because Heptabase allows you to highlight and annotate PDFs, as well as organize the highlighted points on a whiteboard. We look forward to seeing more of Josh's experiences!

Updates from the Heptabase Team
Recently, the Heptabase team channel has turned into a place for group shopping. Alan asked, "Hey, does anyone know where I can find a great standing desk?" Our engineers YZ and Tony jumped in, sharing their epic stories of buying standing desks. Our designer Ethan even dropped a bombshell by recommending an amazing (but expensive) computer chair. Our customer support manager PJ couldn't resist and decided to go all out and buy everything after hearing all the enthusiastic reviews.
We hope that these updates will improve your experience on Heptabase and make your learning easier and more enjoyable.
If you have any feedback or suggestions, or you want to share your use cases or contents related to Heptabase, please don't hesitate to chat with us in our Discord Community or send to team@heptabase.com .
Stay tuned for future updates, and we hope you have a great day!
Best regards,
